HIGH-PERFORMANCE VISION-PCs

Individual for your application

Image processing PCs for camera systems
with high resolutions, fast frame rates and multiple cameras.

The vision PC is the key component of your image processing solution. It significantly influences the performance and stability of your entire system.

CPUs, GPUs, RAM, hard disks and data buses are constantly being developed and improved. Nevertheless, modern machine vision systems present commercially available PCs with unsolvable tasks: High sensor resolutions, frame rates, and multi-camera setups generate many gigabytes per second. In order to process this data, the image processing PC and all other components of the application must be perfectly coordinated.

As one of the world's leading manufacturers of high-speed cameras, Mikrotron offers you 30 years of experience with sophisticated image processing systems. Mikrotron stands for vision PCs that meet your specific requirements and special requests.

4 examples from our practice

3 high-speed cameras - storage and 3D image processing

  • Synchronous encoding of all video data and storage of the data stream
  • High-performance offline 3D image processing

Technical challenges

  • Simultaneous operation of three Camera-Link full frame grabbers on one PCIe slot each
  • High bandwidth for each PCIe slot to store the large data stream

Specification of the solution

  • 19" Rackmount in 1, 2, 4 HE or tower case
  • Mainboard with 44 PCIe lanes and M.2 SSD connectors
  • Intel 10-core CPU, 32 GB RAM
  • NVIDIA GTX 1050TI graphics card
  • 3x 1 TB M.2 NVME SSD-HD for data
  • 3 Camera Link frame grabber

Multi-camera acquisition via USB 3.1, COM ports, ultra-compact

This vision PC can simultaneously acquire and process up to 8 cameras with USB 3.1 Gen1 interface at full bandwidth. Thanks to its ultra-compact design in 19" rack format and only 1 U, it fits into any control cabinet. Four COM ports allow the direct control of flash controllers.

Customer requirements

  • 6 cameras (each 3 MP, 80 fps, USB 3.1 Gen 1), continuous recording with 6 x 340 MB/s
  • Video outputs: VGA, DVI, HDMI
  • 4 COM ports
  • 1 free PCIe x16 slot
  • Ultra-compact housing

Technical challenge

  • Full bandwidth for each of the 8 USB3 ports
  • Fast heat dissipation and EMC stability in compact housing

Specification of the solution

  • 19" Rackmount, 1 HE
  • Mainboard with PS/2, VGA, DVI, HDMI, 8x USB3.1 Gen1, and M.2 SSD connectors
  • Intel 8-core CPU, 16 GB RAM, M.2 NVME SSD-HD
  • Interface card for 4 COM ports

Real-time 3D acquisition from two line scan cameras via 2x 10GigE

Two monochrome linescan cameras each deliver 600,000 2k line images per second over 10 GigE. This corresponds to two area scan cameras with 1 MP and 1200 fps each. The PC continuously stores this amount of data without data loss. A powerful CPU and GPU calculate and analyze the 3D data in real time.

Customer requirements

  • 2x monochrome line scan camera with 10GigE (2K-line, 600 kHz) for continuous recording
  • Fast saving of the data stream without image loss
  • Real-time 3D analysis

Technical challenges

  • Synchronous and continuous acquisition of image lines from two 10GigE cameras
  • Simultaneous operation of two 10GigE network cards on one PCIe slot each with full bandwidth

Specification of the solution

  • Tower case
  • Mainboard Supermicro for Intel core i9, 44 PCIe lanes
  • Intel core i9-9900X
  • Graphics card with NVIDIA GTX 1050Ti
  • 32 GB memory
  • 2x 1 TB M.2 SSD NVME
  • 2x 10GigE network card

Real-time acquisition and processing of 25 MP at 80 fps

This vision PC processes at least 80 high-resolution camera images with 25 MP per second. This allows detailed analysis of numerous and fast moving objects, for example in industrial automation technology for production plants. The PC controls various peripheral devices via programmable I/O boards.

Customer requirements

  • EoSens 25CXP+ high-speed camera with
  • 25 MP, 80 fps, 4x CoaXPress
  • Nvidia CUDA-enabled graphics card

Technical challenges

  • Capture image data at 20 Gbit/s
  • Real-time processing of data on CPU and GPU

Specification of the solution

  • 19" Rackmount in 1, 2, 4 HE or tower case
  • Mainboard with 24 PCIe lanes
  • Intel 8-core CPU, 32 GB RAM
  • Graphics card with NVIDIA-GPU RTX 2080TI
  • 4-fold CoaXPress frame grabber
  • Programmable I/O board Mikrotron MDIOS
